XIENG KHOUANG TRAVEL AND THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW – INDOCHINA TODAY TRAVEL

Land contains many timeless mysteries with impressive architectural works from the fierce war period. Xieng Khouang is located about 435 km southwest of the capital Vientiane. This land has many famous but mysterious landscapes. The most famous is the Plain of Jars with countless legendary stories.

WAT PHIAVAT

Wat Phiavat is the oldest place in the Phuang Kingdom. This large temple was built over 600 years ago under the rule of King Chao Lankhamkong. The Phuang Kingdom collapsed in 1874, which was also the time when Wat Phiavat was destroyed. In addition, American bombs destroyed the temple, leaving only the large Buddha statue in the main hall. Some of the ruined brick walls have been preserved until now. You can visit this ruins with Indochina Today Travel, kneel before the Buddha altar and burn incense to pray for peace and luck.

THAT FOUN STUPA

That Foun is a sacred architectural work built at the same time as Phiavat Pagoda. It is more spacious and taller than That Dam in the capital Vientiane. That Foun stupa is where the relics of Buddha are kept on the “Day of entering Nirvana”. After the war, That Foun was damaged a lot and people broke in and took away many valuable antiques. Therefore, the stupa was restored after Laos was liberated.

THAT CHOMPHET

That Chomphet is a monument built in the early 40th century. According to legend, on top of That Chomphet there is a precious diamond. However, this diamond and some other precious stones on That Chomphet were taken away by foreign troops during the war. On holidays, the traditional Bunpimay New Year, Lao people still hold the Buddha bathing festival here. Most Buddhists perform this ritual to preserve the long-standing traditional culture until now.

TAD KHA WATERFALL

Kha waterfall is located near Khang Phanieng village, Nong Het district. The waterfall is hidden in limestone cliffs and has terraced waterfalls over 100m long. However, you can visit Tad Kha waterfall located near Tajok village. To get here, you will have to walk along a forest trail. This place is famous among locals because they often hold traditional festivals in Laos.

 

BEST TIME TO VISIT

The best time to visit Xieng Khouang is fromNovember to February. It is the cool season in Laos when the weather gets cooler. You should bring along warm clothes as you travel to Laos at this time as Xieng Khouang is the highland plain. It will become mild and chilly in the early morning and late night.
